“Knowledge gives us power, love gives us fullness.” Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
I just read this quote and it took me back to the Teachers’ Day celebration at our #aurobindovidhyalaya school in 2019. All the teachers gifted me this mug for being “Most Passionate!” When I became the principal of the school in 2018, I didn’t know many things and I was unsure if I knew enough to carry this through… but one thing I was certain of was that I love to learn and teach, and I decided that I was just going to continue to do that whole-heartedly. Learn what I don’t know and teach what I do know. And that is what I did, passionately! All the knowledge in the world without the love for what I do would not have brought me and the school to where it is now!
And now, when I interview teachers, I make sure that not only do I test their knowledge of their subjects, but talk extensively to find out if this is truly what they love to do. Because if that is missing, we can never bring about that fullness that our children deserve! However, I do know of schools where a teaching demo & a test are all it takes to get the job. I sincerely urge the schools to please not skip the ‘love’ part. It’s a vital checkbox!
